Children's Art Camps

We offer children's Art camps during the academic year vacation weeks and all summer long.
We hope your child can come out to play this summer!  

Summer Day Camps

2013 

Our Mini Camps run Monday  through Thursday with Clay  mornings, lunch break (11:30-12 noon) then Artistic afternoons.

 

Enroll for either half of the day or a full day

Four Half days $140* = 9am to 12 or 11:30 to 2:30 pm  Four full days   $210* = 9am to 2:30 pm

Some camps may have additional material fees. **

Weekly camps are typically focused on a central theme.  Past themes have included Pottery Whirl, Paper Mache Circus, Impermanent Art, Clay for Nature, Pottery Vortex, Mural Design, Altered Book Making, Fabric Painting, My Own Dishes, Sculpture and Figurines, Folk Art and many more.  Take a peek below for this summer's exciting curriculum!

Mostly Sunny with a Chance of Meatballs

This session will explore the world around us. The way that weather changes, the way that seasons change, and the way that people affect the climate are all important things to learn, and we will be learning about these ideas through art. In this session, we’ll be learning about how water affects soil and clay, and we’ll be building a ceramic mobile.

Grasshoppers, Lady Bugs and Butterflies Oh, My!

We'll begin your day learning about insects and their metamorphic qualities.  We will create insects in clay by exploring different shapes, lines and patterns of our small friends.  We will learn about insect’s life cycles and recreate it in clay.

Inky Insects!

Butterfly, grasshopper, and ant shapes will be printed using recycled materials including packing peanuts and rubber bands. We'll take a close up look outside at our local insects for inspiration!

Circus Time

Under the Big Top everyone!  Come visit the magic of creating projects from animals or people in the circus.  Handbuilding is a perfect way to investigate clay and how you can sculpt a circus inspired pot, animal balancing on a ball or circus performer in action!  Exploring the elements of clay with your own imagination will offer endless ideas in creating your own unique circus!  Coiling and slab construction will be techniques used in this class.

Circus Time

Stepping into the role of a circus performer, we will create through story, action and a two dimensional painting what it is like to be part of the magical show!  Learning basic circus skills such as balancing feathers, plate spinning, scarf juggling, silly magic and more! Watercolors, collage and pastel will be explored in creating an imaginative, individual art project.

Circus World

Step right up and be the designer of your very own circus!  Explore the possibilities of creating your characters from the magical theme of the circus and perhaps create an entire collection!  Handbuilding is a perfect way to investigate clay and how you can sculpt a circus inspired pot, animal balancing on a ball or circus performer in action!  You will be amazed at how quickly your skills develop and how fellow students will add excitement to the process!  We will witness feats of imagination and manifest creations of color and design.  Coiling and slab construction will be techniques used in this class.

Circus World

Now it's your turn to learn the thrills and challenges of basic circus skills! You will have the opportunity to balance feathers, spin plates, devil sticks, diabolo and more!  Find the excitement in learning new goals and trying skills in an encouraging and fun environment....always new discoveries to be made!  We will compliment this time with a two dimensional exploration in the circus theme, our own imaginative circus world, beyond your wildest dreams with colored pencil, watercolor and collage.  Not only do you get to design your circus, you get to see what it's like to be in the circus!

Apple Tree - Around the World

This camp is for Apple Tree participants from Stowe, VT. Starting with basic sculpture techniques we will create various hand built clay pots inspired by diverse clay vessels for all uses (food, foraging, music and more)found around the world. We always start with design on paper and work in depth to create the finished project. This Camp is Monday Through Friday. http://www.appletreelc.com

Exploration of a different culture in a different medium every day, from Aboriginal Australian Paintings, African Yarn Art, to Japanese Origami.

Architecture

Students will explore clay hand building techniques and sculpt three dimensional curves and fantastical structures inspired by architect Frank Gehry.

Three dimensional sculptures based on the wild forms of architect Frank Gehry. We will transform recycled materials into creative, curvy, architectural  wonders!

Animals In Nature

 

We will work in clay to create animal forms using a variety of techniques.  Techniques such as pinch, coil, hallow form will be explored.  Students will have the option to create functional animal forms, sculptural forms or both.  Introduction to Effigy Pots

We will create habitats for our “animals" with installation work both in and outside (weather permitting).  Installation techniques will include painting, drawing, and weaving with synthetic and natural materials.

Graffiti Galore

We will be creating clay chalk which we will use to create graffiti murals, crazy clay monsters who will have outdoor adventures and miniature clay walls to experiment with our graffiti art! Maximum Enrollment - 8

Graffiti Galore

Interested in learning more about Graffiti?  We will be exploring how to create your own artist tag and then branch out to create interactive chalk murals!  Using digital cameras we will document the adventures of our crazy clay monsters in various settings.  Banksy and Shepard Fairey will be inspiration for us to create stencils which we will experiment with in several media!

Comics and Sequential Art

In this session, we will be exploring sequential art and comics. Comics are their own language- a way to express humor, and a way of telling stories. We will be learning about that language, and putting it into action, on paper, but also on clay. You will learn to draw, paint, and use transfer techniques to create short comics on clay.  Exploration of Sgrafitto techniques to create depth.

Comics and Sequential Art

We will continue the development of our sequential art skills through character development in the creation of our own comic books.  Bring your own tablet or laptop and learn the basics of computer graphic design.
